In a country with a population of 80 million population, 14 million cellular subscribers generating about 150 – 200 million sms messages a day. 2 philippine carriers reported around 50% growth in net income, primarily generated by data revenue. (via IHT) The owners of Villa Arcadia, located in this town on the southern island of Mindanao about 550 miles (880 kilometers) south of Manila, had only a poorly printed brochure in bad English that listed two mobile phone numbers. “Practically all our guests this week made reservations through those numbers, and most of them didn’t even call – they just texted us,” Jimmy Trece, the owner of Villa Arcadia, said. “Our customers saved a lot of money.”

Philippine mobile carriers generate the highest percentage of data revenue per subscriber. The percentage is about 34% of ARPU.
