Indian Degrees and Employment

( Via Indian Express) Meeta Sengupta argues that academic education and employability are not the same thing. Our universities need to stop pretending they are. A hiring manager recently narrated a story where a fresh graduate being interviewed demanded a salary because he had a degree from a particular institute. The candidate was not able to answer very basic questions in mathematics and logic.

When higher education institutes seek to deliver employability while retaining academic structures, they are confused. Academic higher educated is designed for intellectual life, not for employability.
